Admissions Assistance for Students

Pre-Application Guidance

Woodring College of Education Teacher Education programs provide assistance and advising to students who plan to apply to Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education.  The Teacher Education Admissions Office in Miller Hall 206 offers hours for both scheduled and drop-in advising to best meet your needs.  Please don't hesitate to visit us in person or by phone at 360-650-3313.

There are specific academic areas that have a high need for teachers.  We encourage future teachers to select from these academic majors and apply to the appropriate teacher education program.  These critical shortage subject areas are:

Special Education
English as a Second Language
Chemistry
Physics
Mathematics
Instrumental Music
Early Childhood Special Education
Bilingual Education
Choral Music

Diversity in Teacher Education

Wooding College is committed to and values applicants with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities because we believe diversity contributes to knowledge, social justice, and academic quality.  Because they are under-represented in the teaching profession, Woodring College encourages students of color to apply to all Teacher Education programs and males interested in Elementary (K-8) or Special Education (P-12) programs.  Woodring College has a special scholarship program that could be beneficial for admission and retention in the Teacher Education program.  Students who accept this award will be joining with Woodring in a “promise” agreement to maintain eligibility and enroll in one of Woodring’s three Teacher Education programs as soon as they have fulfilled the requirements for admission.  In exchange, Woodring will guarantee priority admission to qualified students, a faculty mentor, a faculty-assigned academic advisor, a drop-in center, a Woodring/WWU student services and support handbook, lunch with the scholarship donor, and invitations to participate in special student activities.  For more information and to view details of this program, click here on the Future Teachers of Color Promise Scholarships link.  You may also wish to view all scholarships available to students by visiting the Scholarships link at the left side of this page.
