 The
Washington
Educator Skills
Test - Basic
(WEST-B) is a basic skills entrance exam required of all teacher education
applicants in Washington State. The entrance exam contains three separate subtests:
Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. The Reading and Mathematics
subtests each consist of approximately 60 multiple-choice questions.
The Writing subtest consists of approximately 50 multiple-choice
questions and two writing prompts. The results for each subtest
are calculated on a scale ranging from 100 to 300 with the passing
score equal to a scaled score of 240. Students
must take and pass all three subtests prior to submitting an
application to any of our teacher education programs.
The WEST-B is administered by National Evaluation Systems,
Inc. and offered six times a year at
various locations statewide. The registration deadline for each test date is several weeks in advance of
the test. Register early to avoid incurring additional late
registration fees. Scores are mailed to examinees approximately three weeks after the
test date. For additional information regarding registration,
costs, test dates and locations, and to view a Study Guide with sample
test questions, please visit the
WEST-B website.
A
limited number of vouchers are available to students with established
financial need. To inquire about vouchers, contact Gretchen
