Premiere of Jim Lortz's film, "My Name is Noémi"

CEED's partner, the Northwest Center for Holocaust, Genocide, and Ethnocide Education, invites you to watch Jim Lortz's new film, "My Name is Noémi." It covers a year of Noémi's life, bookended with two unique trips back to Auschwitz II: Birkenau where Noémi spent four months of her life in 1944. It also covers footage from Noémi's home in Budapest, Hungary; Noémi visiting her father's grave, revisiting her birthplace, Szeged and glimpses of Noemi's life (family, routine and speaking engagements).

"Whatcom Reads!" - Sherman Alexie Visits Bellingham

Sites throughout Bellingham (TBA)
Cultural programs, book discussion groups, and events for all ages will culminate in March of 2009 with a visit from Sherman Alexie for several programs around the county. More information will be available later in the year at all partner libraries and sponsors in Whatcom County.
Alexie's book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, is the "Whatcom Reads!" book for 2009. Exploring Indian identity, both self and tribal, Alexie's first young adult novel is a semiautobiographical chronicle of Arnold Spirit, aka Junior, a Spokane Indian from Wellpinit, WA.
