Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible to enroll in Continuing and College Education courses prior to admission
to the program?
Currently, students are allowed to take one or two program courses prior to
admissions to the program with instructor/advisor permission.
Can courses be transferred into the program?
With permission of the faculty advisor and the
Graduate School, students may transfer up to 9 post-baccalaureate
quarter credits if the courses are appropriate to the plan of study. See the Graduate School section of the WWU catalog for details
on credit transfer requirements.
What if I don't meet the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement for admissions?
The
Graduate School sets limits on the
number of provisional admissions that can be granted to students who
do not meet the minimum GPA requirement. It is recommended that you talk with a faculty advisor if you
might be in the provisional admission category.
Can I begin the program any quarter?
The Continuing and College Education program admits students for
all four quarters of the year, so students may begin their study any
quarter.
Can I complete the Continuing and College Education degree courses on-line?
The Continuing and College Education program is not designed as a
distance education program, though several required courses
are available through multi-mode (combination of web-based learning,
face-to-face class meetings, print and media resources).
In addition, several of the elective courses are available as distance
education courses.
Is there a sequence in which I should take
courses?
CCE 501 Introduction to Research in Education,
should be taken in one's first year in the program and is a
prerequisite for CCE 591 Applied Research Proposal. CCE 586
Teaching in E-Learning and Hybrid Environments has a prerequisite of
either CCE 571 or CCE 580. CCE 599
Graduation Seminar is taken within the last two quarters of
graduation. Other than this, students can take courses in any
order. Because some elective courses are offered only every two years,
students interested in certain courses are encouraged to take them
when they are scheduled. There is no expectation that students take
required courses prior to elective courses.
Who teaches the courses?
Courses are taught by full-time faculty with particular areas
of expertise. All faculty have doctorates in the field, and draw upon
many years of experience as adult educators and college faculty.
When are courses offered?
The program is designed with working adults in
mind, so courses are offered evenings, and/or by distance
education.
How much is tuition?
For graduate tuition, refer to the
Graduate School
website.
Are there scholarships or assistantships?
A graduate
assistantship for the CCE Program is available each academic year
(fall-spring quarters). To apply, fill out and submit the
assistantship application form available from the
Graduate School
website. Also the
Woodring College of Education Scholarship page has some
scholarships available for graduate students.
How long does it take to complete the program?
Because students can self-pace through the program,
rates of completion vary from one to five years. The average length of
completion is two years, taking an average of six credits per quarter
for eight quarters.
