“During my tenure process, I have taken several online courses such as Teaching/Facilitating Learning Level I and II to fulfill my teaching certificate. I thought those courses were adequate until I enrolled in the Community and Technical College Teaching (CTCT) certificate program a year ago. I found the CTCT program not only prepared me to become a better educator but also broadened my knowledge of the field of education. I learned many helpful instructional strategies such as active learning, collaborative and cooperative learning, and team base learning so I could apply these to my teaching to migrate from teacher-centered to learner-centered. This CTCT program is so rich and so rewarding; I highly recommend it to anyone considering becoming an educator in the future.” |

“I am a veterinarian, who also practices veterinary acupuncture, in the CCE/CTCT program at Western Washington University with my husband, fellow veterinarian Ed Stone. With the CTCT certificate I hope to teach sciences at the college level in a more student-centered way than we were taught. This program has also made me come up with several courses I would love to develop and teach. They would all tend to be participatory, interdisciplinary, and involve critical inquiry and reflection. I feel, and have experienced with the CCE/CTCT program, that learning has deeper connections and enjoyment for both teacher and student when done in such fashion.” |

“I completed the Certificate in Community & Technical College Teaching (CTCT) in December 2006. I have seventeen plus years of experience in project management and a Masters Degree in Business Administration. My future plans include teaching business subjects or project management part time. The CTCT provided me the skill set that will enable me to transfer my experience to others in an academic setting. As the Facilities Director for Everett Community College, I use what I learned in the CTCT Program in my daily duties of designing, building, operating, and maintaining the educational environments for our College. The CTCT Program is great preparation for those seeking a career transition that involves the transfer of their subject matter expertise and technical skills to others.” |

“My decision to join the CTCT program at Woodring College of Education proved to be even better than I hoped. The faculty have been remarkably attentive and supportive, making sure that I and others receive both training and mentoring to succeed in the academic job market. The M.Ed. student community is also very welcoming. A distinct advantage of the CTCT program overall is its teaching internship and connections with Community and Technical Colleges as even some Ph.D programs in higher education do not require from students to have experience in teaching. The program's support for interdisciplinary education, and its student driven advisory community activities are also an advantage for students to learn about each other and to develop as leaders in higher education. These opportunities for interaction with others throughout the CTCT program and the University have lead me to personal success in the program.”. |

“By interviewing professionals teaching in my field, I knew the value of the CTCT certificate before I enrolled in the program. I am enjoying the active learning environment provided by my CTCT instructor, and the many opportunities to interact with new and experienced teachers within Community and Technical Colleges. I have learned such proactive information about the foundations, regulations, legal and ethical issues of teaching at a Technical or Community College that I am discovering what a powerful tool the CTCT program is for current and future teachers.” |

“As a student that returned to college in my late 20's, the Community College system was the only real option for me to re-enter the realm of higher education. I attended several Community Colleges, eventually earning my Associate's degree with a strong enough educational foundation to be admitted to one of the most competitive public universities in the state. My success was well supported by the excellent educators in the Community Colleges I attended. WWU's CTCT program has given me the opportunity to gain the training and experience in college teaching to be able to give back to my community in the same manner that made so much of a difference in my life. The CTCT certificate program builds on a person's own knowledge in their field, and through practical hands-on learning and experience, prepares students to become a college instructor in their area of expertise. I highly recommend WWU's CTCT Certificate program to all those who have an interest in beginning teaching at the college level.” |
