Bellingham Site: The Secondary Education Department offers two programs for those wishing to teach middle and /or high school.
- Undergraduate/Post Baccalaureate Program (UG/PB)
Complete the Teacher Education undergraduate program while finishing a bachelor's degree (UG) or after earning a bachelor's degree (PB)
- Master in Teaching (MIT)
Complete the Teacher Education graduate program and master's degree after earning a bachelor's degree
Candidates who successfully complete Secondary Education programs are recommended to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for residency teacher certification in the state of Washington.
These programs reflect the Woodring College conceptual framework of preparing thoughtful, knowledgeable, and effective middle and high school teachers for a diverse society. The curriculum is a carefully sequenced professional program that is firmly backed by current research on effective teaching and embraces three basic strands in education:
- Artistic
- Scientific
- Professional
Secondary Education faculty are student-centered and committed to providing accurate and up-to-date information and advice to current and prospective students. The route to certification may be more complex than for other university programs because candidates must meet requirements
- Academic (major endorsements) departments;
- Secondary Education, and
- Residency Certification
