WINTER 2000

Thoughtful, knowledgeable, and effective educators for a diverse society

FROM THE DEAN...

Welcome to the latest issue of the Woodring Educator. We hope that you will find this issue interesting and informative as we describe some of our many outreach activities and projects. There are also articles and short items that give the reader some insight about the "internal workings" and activities of our students, faculty, and staff.

Our faculty have been involved in many professional pursuits and programs for Woodring throughout the world, e.g. Finland and Korea. In this issue, we highlight our involvement in educational reform in Greenland as part of our commitment to educational reform worldwide. Our Student Teaching Abroad Program gives the reader some feel for how we work with our students and other countries to provide unique internship experiences.

A central theme that is found throughout this issue of the Educator is diversity. Woodring's commitment to both recognition of diversity in humankind and its central role in our daily lives and professional work is documented in the many projects, activities, and institutional structures that are embedded in our College and its goals and missions. You will learn more about LINK, NAMP, HASTA, and Partners in Reading as examples of our students' efforts.

There is also information about the work of our Diversity Task Force which has been performed over the past several years. Most recently that task force has been converted into a permanent Diversity Committee. This confirms our conviction that its role is critically tied to the mission of the College.

Keep in touch. Please send us information about your activities or suggestions for future issues of the newsletter. Best wishes.

Marv Klein, Dean
