Assistive Technology (AT) is
defined by federal law (IDEA '97 and ADA) as:
"any
item, piece of equipment, or product...whether acquired commercially, something modified, or custom made...that is used to increase, maintain, and/or improve the functional capability of
individuals with disabilities."
Historically, Assistive Technologies were primarily available
for children and adults with severe disabilities. However, Assistive Technologies are now widely available to
meet the diverse needs of:

language learners"
-
People with chronic health conditions
-
Young
children and ‘elders’ in our society

Individuals
with various disabilities such as:
