  1. Establish Center within organizational structure of Western Washington University. The Center will be housed with the Professional Development Resource Center of Woodring College of Education.

  2. Meet with deans and directors from all Washington educator preparation programs to describe project and invite interested faculty to participate in curriculum development for pre-service and administrator certification. Form a consortium of institutions committed to the goals of the project.

  3. Create web-based clearinghouse of information and research about family friendly schools practices, educator preparation curricula, and links to other organizations with valuable accessible information.

  4. Meet with Woodring College of Education (WCE) faculty, participating institutions faculty, and Achieving Family Friendly Schools (AFFS) consultants. This will entail several meetings and will utilize technology to further the work of the consortium (email, video conferences, BlackBoard, etc.)

    Purpose:

    a.   Introduce Family Friendly Schools materials and curriculum materials already in use by participating institutions;
    b.   Create a standard of practice and competencies in family support practices;
    c.   Begin process of planning curriculum development to infuse family friendly skills and knowledge into existing program curricula.

  1. Pilot materials in courses within consortium institutions as the materials are developed and/or adopted.

  2. Evaluate effectiveness of curriculum in developing knowledge, skills, and attitudes of beginning teachers and school leaders.

  3. Disseminate the work of the Center to professional organizations and other educator preparation programs.

  4. Facilitate presentations and forums to bring together state-wide constituents for the purpose of planning and implementing initial work of the Center in other areas of impact: schools, community/business, parents, and policy makers.
