Professional Teacher Certification
Program Design
The Professional Certificate Program consists of 15 professional development credits and upon successful completion of the program, candidates hold Washington State’s second tier of certification.A Concept Map (word) (pdf) and Blue Print (word) (pdf) provide a visual display of Western’s program sequence and content.
A full description of the Pre-Assessment Seminar is described in the Pre-Assessment Seminar Syllabus.
The Core component of the program may be satisfied by either completing a Core Seminar plus elective credits aligned with Professional Growth Plan (word) (pdf) goals (Option #1) or by completing nine credits from an approved M.Ed. program plus at least one linking class that is designed to assist in development of portfolio evidence (Option #2).
Option #1: A description of Core through seminar plus elective credits is described in the Core Seminar Syllabus.
Option #2: Core requirements may be satisfied through M.Ed. credits plus linking class credit if the M.Ed. program is aligned with Professional Certificate Standards and Criteria and is pre-approved by the Director of University-School Partnerships. Candidates should send course descriptions and a summary of Professional Growth Plan goals to Dr. Sheila Fox, Director of University-School Partnerships, for review and approval.

class

candidates
as they
develop
and
organize
portfolio
entries.

step in
the
program
and is
