Do I need this class?
All candidates entering the Professional Certification process are required to apply using a state Application (word) (pdf) form and to complete the Pre-Assessment Seminar. How does it fit into the sequence?
The Pre-Assessment Seminar is the first seminar in the Professional Certification process. It’s prerequisite to Core and Culminating Seminars. For more information on program options, go to the Concept Map (word) (pdf).
How much time will it take?
Pre-Assessment seminar takes 10 to 15 two-hour sessions, depending on supplementary activities in your school district. These sessions are held approximately every other week, usually beginning in October and ending in the spring before WASL testing occurs. The Pre-Assessment seminar is only offered once during an academic year

Do I need to be a contracted teacher?
Candidates entering a professional certification program must hold a position as a contracted teacher in a Washington State public or state-approved private school and must have completed provisional status employment (generally two years), OR verify support from the school district or state-approved private school. A Provisional Status-Employer Support (pdf) form is available for this purpose.
What if I took this course somewhere else?
Candidates may enter Western Washington University’s Professional Certification program at any stage, but they must show evidence of completed work by sending a transcript and copies of their Professional Growth Plan (word) (pdf), Professional Growth Record (word) (pdf), and Student Learning Context Profile (word) (pdf) to the Director of University-School Partnerships.
Where will seminars be held?
Seminars are held in a location determined by the instructor(s) for that cohort. Locations are conveniently located for attendees in that geographical area.
