Endorsement Programs
WEST-E Test Resource Site
What is the WEST-E Test?
Washington State requires teacher candidates and teachers adding
endorsements to pass the Washington Educator Skills Test - Endorsements
(WEST-E) subject knowledge assessment for each endorsement. Western
Washington University teacher candidates must pass the WEST-E for each
endorsement to be earned with a teacher certificate as a condition for
entering the student teaching internship. A WEST-E test may also be used to
meet the federal
Highly Qualified Teacher requirement.
WEST-E 2009-2010
Testing Year
WEST-E tests
are administered by Evaluation Systems
Group of Pearson. The test session includes about five (5)
hours of actual testing time. Multiple tests or subtests may be taken during
a test session. Test preparation and registration information is available
through the Washington Educator Skills Test
Website.
Note 1: Candidates earning a Bilingual Education endorsement must also pass the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview and ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test at the Advanced Mid Level.
Note 2: The WEST-E test for French, German, Japanese and Spanish will be available beginning January, 2010. Candidates must also pass the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview and ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test at the Advanced Low level.
Note 3: Candidates earning a French, German and/or Spanish endorsement who will complete their program and apply for the endorsement by August 31, 2010 may take a specific Praxis II test instead of the WEST-E and ACTFL assessments.
WEST-E Test Voucher
A very limited number of test fee
vouchers are available through Woodring College of Education to cover
the cost of one WEST-E test. At a minimum voucher applicants must 1) be enrolled in a WWU
