Holocaust Poetry

When I was brought here
To this vile land,
I was wearing the star.
Grandma was holding my hand.
I was strong but she was weak.
We formed a line.
She was sent with the weak.
I went to a place and had to be shaved.
Then we went into a foul-smelling cave.
No longer was someone holding my hand.

Finally after traveling far and wide,
We came into that hated land.
Hitler was such a lie.
He sent us to “Arbeit Macht Frei.” (work makes you free…)
And never had to see his head.

From the author:  “I used rhyme because I like having fun with words.  I used rhythm because it sounded better and caught your interest.”
