Pre-Service Professional Growth Plan
This webpage provides information and resources for student teaching interns to learn about and complete their internship and certification required Pre-service Professional Growth Plan.
All Woodring College of Education student teaching interns are required to complete this plan at the end of their internship. Many interns will have previously written up such a plan as part of a program course assignment but the plan must be updated at the end of the internship and submitted to their UIC.
Pre-service Professional Growth Plan
Western Washington University pre-service teachers learn about the draft Pre-service Professional Growth Plan within specific courses and field experiences during the teacher education program. Students may revise the plan as they practice and reflect during the student teaching internship.
The plan template is a state form and reflects 3 standards and 12 criteria. You must carefully consider your growth and development as a teacher and choose goal areas that will help enhance your professional competencies. In making those choices, you will want to review your final evaluation as you consider your three goal areas. You are required to:
Requirements and Submission
Each intern must update his/her plan at the end of the internship with the following expectations:
1. You must review all 12 criteria and choose 3 to 5 in which to write a goal.
3. Each goal must have proposed growth activities, possible resources, and a timeline (complete by date). Since you will be completing this plan prior to starting your contracted professional career, you may need to keep the possible resources and complete by information specific enough to provide clear direction but broad enough to align with your first job.
3. You must review, print, and sign your plan and then submit it to your UIC. Remember that this is an internship and certification requirement and failure to submit a completed plan will delay your certification.
