Woodring Reading Tutors
Information for Schools
Do You Want Reading Tutors?
- Woodring College of Education at WWU has several students with work study awards who are seeking Reading Tutor opportunities in elementary classrooms.
- Reading Tutors are WWU students who have work study funding as part of their financial aid awards.
- Tutors will perform duties related to developing literacy skills. For example, Tutors can read to groups of students, one-on-one, or listen as students read back to them.
- Reading Tutors can also help with writing assignments tied to reading projects.
- Please note that Reading Tutors are not eligible to perform general teacher assistant or administrative duties.
- Teachers decide if and when they want a tutor scheduled for their classroom. We do ask that teachers provide a stable and consistent weekly work schedule for the tutors. A steady weekly schedule will help tutors organize their time commitments.
If you would like to have WWU work study students in your classroom for the 2009-2010 school year, please contact Kevin O’Toole with the following information:
- Tentative availability for reading tutors. You can negotiate the actual work schedule with the tutor; however, your tentative schedule will serve as a starting point to find students with schedules that match your needs.
- Preferred method of contact (Email, phone, etc.)
- Your school
- Your grade level
- Number of WWU students needed
