TESOL
International Students

The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Program welcomes international students. During your stay in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, you will study modern teaching methodology while you experience American life, language, and culture by living and studying with American students. Join Americans from many age groups and backgrounds who are taking TESOL courses. The group stays together for the school year, which creates a warm and supportive classroom atmosphere and many friendship opportunities.

In order to meet visa requirements for full-time study you need to maintain a total of 8 credits per quarter. In addition to TESOL courses these credits may include coursework from other credit-bearing university classes or for those who wish to increase their accuracy and fluency in English, from the Intensive English Program (IEP).

Classes are both practical and intellectually challenging. Instructors appreciate the valuable experience international speakers of English as a second language bring to the classroom. Instructors invite your participation in class and encourage you to investigate materials that are appropriate for your teaching situations.

To apply to the program, international students must have:

  • Completed two or more years of college-level study.
  • Demonstrated academic competency in the English language with a minimum TOEFL score of 550
  • Submit a completed TESOL Application

To earn the certificate of achievement, international students must:

  • Enroll in and successfully complete all TESOL Program courses.
  • Maintain 8 credits per quarter.
