Teaching Experiences
Dear Trish,
It has been nearly a year since I got my TESOL certificate, which I seem to value at least as much as my master’s degree.
I’ve had a chance to teach writing and grammar to international students at Whatcom and Skagit, ESL in the workplace at Yamato motors and provide ESL support skills for I-Best students studying to be certified nursing assistants. And communications and academic support classes, too. Then, this spring quarter, my job possibility fell through, so I took myself to Mexico to study Spanish at the University of Guadalajara for 6 weeks. What a great experience! As a language student, I learned a lot more than Spanish.
I am back in town and will be teaching one ESL evening course at Whatcom this summer. Yay!
All of my work so far has been part-time temporary, for a particular class for one quarter, and so forth. I am grateful to have had the work and continue to plug away, trying to build up a good reputation, hoping for more work.
Hope things are going well with you and the program. Feel free to give my name to anyone thinking about a visit to Guadalajara.
