program
to meet your
needs
Western Washington University offers a 27 credit TESOL
Program which leads to a certificate of achievement. The program provides
training in the core areas vital to the profession, including linguistics,
grammar, second language acquisition theory and a two-part methods course.
Hands-on classroom experience with ESL learners is an essential part
of all program courses, culminating in the final course--a teaching
practicum. This program also meets Washington State's requirements for
a supporting endorsement in teaching ESL.
The program coursework is offered in several formats to meet your
scheduling needs:
Annual
Option

Attend late afternoon courses during
fall, winter and spring quarters on the Bellingham campus.
Summer
Option
- Take
one
course
prior to summer quarter,
attend an intensive summer session on the Bellingham campus, and do
an internship following summer quarter.
This certificate program attracts students from various
professional and educational backgrounds. Post-baccalaureate and undergraduate
upperclassmen may be accepted into the program. International students
in the TESOL Program bring insight into the learning of English and
knowledge of teaching situations in other countries.
TESOL
students have a rich variety of educational and international experiences,
which creates a dynamic learning environment in the classroom.
