A Case Study: The SWIFT Outdoor Classroom – A natural building built by students, for students
In 2008, three organizations came together to embark on an unprecedented endeavor: to be the first in Washington to build a natural-building outdoor classroom for students, by students. The partnership wrote and was awarded a grant to construct a 700 ft2 cordwood construction building, and tie Washington State K-12 standards to their curriculum. This presentation is their findings. Goals: Educators will learn to marry interdisciplinary education to outdoor activities/service-based projects and K-12 standards. Outcomes: Participants will leave with a template for starting their own project(s) in their own communities.
