What is Sustainability?
Sustainability is meeting the current generation's needs while ensuring that future generations can meet their needs. Sustainability involves the interconnectedness of a healthy environment, social justice and equity and economic vitality.

Overview: This exciting event includes plenary sessions on sustainability education and systems thinking as well as small group concurrent sessions over three days that will focus on the following thematic topics:
Learning Strands
Preparing 21st Century Citizens
These sessions focus on skills and knowledge associated with preparing responsible citizens for an environmentally sustainable, globally interconnected, and diverse society. Sessions with this tag will provide information related to the emerging green economy and preparing students for green jobs. Sessions explore the use of service learning expeditions, sustainable design projects, sustainability related culminating projects, community based learning, and innovations in career and technical education. Sessions also will present examples of school-community partnerships and school-wide initiatives that incorporate sustainability related projects.
Promising Prototypes
These sessions present examples of initiatives, projects, and models that employ innovative strategies for integrating sustainability education in K-12 schools or teacher professional development. Sessions with this tag provide information about new curriculum projects, school-wide professional development initiatives, new roles for teachers, strategies for preparing pre-service teachers, creative strategies for deploying existing resources, and innovative collaborations.
Tools For Change
These sessions present specific resources and strategies that support the shift to sustainability education in K-12 and teacher education programs. Sessions will provide specific information about sustainability curriculum programs, web-based resources, publications and organization resources available that support implementation of global sustainability education. Sessions with this tag also may provide information to support individual change to help educators align their own behaviors with the principles of sustainability.
