What is the Future Woodring Scholars Program?
Woodring College of Education
created the Future Scholars Program to provide a
distinctive, small group experience for a select group of
entering freshman with an interest in teacher education or
human services. Through the Future Scholars Program,
students will be able to explore teacher education or human
services early in their Western experience while gaining a
network of academic and social support from Woodring
students, faculty, and staff.
How are Future Woodring Scholars selected?
Students who have demonstrated
academic success, have indicated an interest in human
services or a high-need field of teacher education, and have
a strong background in multiculturalism and/or an expressed
interest in working with diverse student populations are
considered for the Future Scholars Program. The
selection process is competitive.

What are the requirements for participating in
the Future Woodring Scholars Program?
Future Scholars agree to
participate in a two-credit course fall quarter. Future
Scholars will take part in activities and special

include a welcoming reception, invitations to Woodring
events, and one-on-one advising sessions.
Do Future Scholars have to declare a
major in Woodring College?
The Future Scholars Program is
designed to help students develop their academic interests
in teacher education and human services. All students in
teacher education programs complete an approved academic
major in addition to their education program. The Future
Scholars Program is a great way for students to explore
teacher education and human services so that they can make
informed decisions on an eventual major declaration.
